The US government and Anthropic have stated that Claude Fable 5 is now accessible starting on July 1. The upgraded version is open to users globally, while Mythos will be limited to certain US organizations.
Howard Lutnick, the Secretary of Commerce in the United States, posted on Twitter:
“We have collaborated with Anthropic in the last two weeks to review and authorize Fable 5, aiming to ensure consistency within the US Government and enhance America’s AI leadership.”
His tweet was unsurprisingly met with criticism regarding the lateness.
Anthropic Corrects Error Using a Fresh Classifier
Anthropic’s official statement states that they have resolved the vulnerability highlighted by Amazon using a new classifier designed to detect 99% of potential threats. In this case, a classifier is an automated security measure that determines if a user’s input is a benign inquiry or an effort to bypass security protocols for harmful intents.
Users will receive notifications if their requests are blocked and the requests will be redirected accordingly. Efforts were made to quickly address the identified bypass by collaborating with the government to enhance a safety classifier that specifically blocks the reported behavior. In case a request for Fable 5 is blocked, users will be informed and the request will be directed to Opus 4.8.
Anthropic’s announcement suggests they may not be entirely pleased with the new safeguard, as they caution that even “innocuous requests” could be identified during regular coding and debugging activities. They do, however, pledge to enhance their classifier to minimize inaccurate alerts.
Fable 5 will come with updated restrictions on usage.
Access to Fable 5 will have a weekly usage limit of up to 50% until July 7, when it will change to a usage credit pricing model.

Fable 5 will be accessible worldwide on the Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork starting tomorrow, July 1. For specific plans, Fable 5 will be offered within weekly usage limits at a 50% discount until July 7, and then available through usage credits. Access on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry will be restored promptly.
We have regained access to Mythos 5 for specific US organizations after receiving approval from the US government on June 26. We are working with the government to extend access to a wider range of domestic and international partners in the Glasswing program.
